NOTICE FOR BIDS FOR MOWING SERVICES - Notice is hereby given that Frankfort Community Unit School District No. 168 wishes to receive bids for Mowing Services for the 2025 mowing season. Bid specifications are available at www.wfschools.org or contact Matt Donkin, Superintendent of Schools, Administrative Service Center, 900 N. Cherry St., West Frankfort, IL 62896 (618) 937-2421.
Bids on the above items must be submitted according to the bid specifications by Monday, March 24, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Administrative Service Center. A Pre-Bid Meeting will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the ASC. The Board of Education reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

A Follow-Up from Frankfort CUSD #168: After talking with and reassuring some students in the bus lines about this afternoon's brief hold/soft lockdown, please reassure them as they get home that they were safe at all times. The person of interest, who was walking on the northeast side of town near Bryan Street and an old school, was quickly apprehended by the WFPD. After further investigation, he was carrying a "look-a-like" weapon and not a real one. We again thank the alert individuals of the public who alerted us immediately so that we can reach out to law enforcement to make that determination. It takes all of us to keep our students and schools safe. Enjoy the rest of your day.
From Frankfort CUSD #168: Within the last 10 minutes, our schools were briefly put into a "Hold" or soft lockdown status as there were reports of an individual walking down the street on the northwest side of town carrying a long gun. WFPD have apprehended the individual and we are now back to normal, "All Clear" operations and will keep our regular dismissal time.. Thanks go to the alert individuals who reported the incident.

Frankfort CUSD #168 notes the passing of Miss Allis Hays, a 1940 graduate of FCHS who, with her identical twin sister Phyllis taught kindergarten at West Frankfort schools from the early 1940s until 1983, passed away February 28 at age 102. Several generations of students had Miss Allis to start their school career.
She and her sister continue to serve their community in the years since their retirement. They helped sponsor a scholarship for FCHS students going into the field of education for over 20 years. Miss Allis Hays left a long and positive legacy for both her students and her fellow teachers. May we all work to meet the standards that she and her late sister set.
Visitation beings at 10 and services are at 11 on Saturday morning, March 8 from at the First Baptist Church in West Frankfort. Arrangements are through Union Funeral Home.
CJHS will be having a Leprechaun week, March 17-21.

The CJHS Students of the month for February are 8th graders Tanner Smith and Rylan Ray, and 7th graders Aubrey Horrell and Boedy Fitch. All of these students are hard workers and have such kind hearts - perfect for the month of February! Way to go !!

As mentioned at the meeting and since, the Frequently Asked Questions and answers would be posted on the District’s website. Again, due to the snowy winter weather that we experienced this week, the next Informational Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in the CJHS Cafeteria with the Topic of “Facilities and Materials Needs for our Schools.”
From FCUSD 168: After surveying overall surface conditions across the miles of roads & streets in the District, we will have one more day of NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Thurs. Feb. 20. 2025. Then, in an update from last night, due to further scheduling issues, the Informational Meeting that was to be held tonight is postponed until next THURSDAY, Feb. 27. Finally, the Frequently Asked Questions from last week's meeting will be posted within the next few hours on the District's websites..
From FCUSD 168: Due to the snowy conditions, there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Wed.. Feb. 19. 2025. In addition, tomorrow night's planned Informational Meeting will be postponed until next Wed. Feb. 26. Finally, the Frequently Asked Questions from last week's meeting will be posted tomorrow.

From District #168: As we continue on a regular dismissal school day, we do announce that the after-school ELL program, in addition to Redbird Roost, will be cancelled today, Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Again, we are remaining on a regular dismissal schedule. We are contacting those in the after- school programs directly.
Our phones are down at Central, FIS and DES. Our internet is still good. If you need to contact the office please email them. We are hoping to have this issue fixed soon. Thank you.

From FCUSD 168: We are monitoring the approaching winter weather and expect to be able to have school tomorrow on Tuesday, February 18 with the hope to have a full day of instruction. If conditions worsen significantly, we will have an all-call and message as soon as possible. Please take it slow in the morning.
We thank the West Frankfort Fire Department and the West Frankfort Police Department for providing an escort on a rainy afternoon as , for the first time ever, two FCHS student-athletes have advanced to the IHSA Girls' State Wrestling Tournament to be held on February 28 - March 1 at the Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington, Illinois. More information will be posted over the course of the next 10 days as we root for Nikolette Ronketto and Sophia Bechelli as they represent us at State. Congratulations also goes to Coach Rick Arrington and Assistant Coaches Samantha Finn, Marcus Chance, David Butler, and Matt Huff for their efforts in developing this program.

The community service class at CJHS would like to send care packages to members of the military from our hometown. They are doing a snack drive on Friday, February 21 to collected items to ship to men and women in active military service.
If you have a friend, relative or neighbor from West Frankfort that is serving in the military, please send his or her address to tsullivan@wfschools.org and we will add them to our list of recipients. We would like to have names by Monday, February 25, 2025.
If you would like to donate to the project, please bring items or financial contributions to CJHS by Friday, February 21.
