CJHS will be administering the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) in March of 2024 to 8th grade students. Below is a link to an informational letter explaining what the survey consists of and giving you as the parent the option to prevent your child from participating. We will also be sending this letter home in a paper format for you to sign and return if you choose to opt your child out. The survey is anonymous, but helps us better understand the risk factors affecting our students, so we can adequately address them through education.

This afternoon Central Junior High School conducted a soft lockdown and random drug search of lockers with police officers and a trained canine unit. All students were in classrooms and were not in direct contact with police or the canine unit. No drugs or drug paraphernalia were found in the search. All students have currently resumed their normal schedule. CJHS strives to maintain a drug free educational environment to keep our school safe for all students.

A message for Denning Elementary School and the District: a little after 10 a.m., an individual from the neighborhood was having a mental health episode and began banging on the exterior doors of Denning School. The building immediately went on lockdown and 911 was called. Officers arrived and apprehended the individual. There was no weapon involved. All faculty, staff, and students acted appropriately and orderly just like they practice in drills. All is back to normal now. We will now talk with all of our students and reassure them and go back to our normal day as we celebrate the 100th day of school today. We thank everyone for their assistance during these few stressful moments.
Congratulations to Taylan McCamish for being named All-Conference for Girls' Basketball. She is our Student Athlete of the week!
