Statement on Student Incident this Morning --
Shortly after school began this morning, administration at Denning Elementary School was notified that a student might have left an air soft gun in their backpack. School personnel, with the assistance of the Student Resource Officer from the West Frankfort Police Department, quickly investigated and confiscated the weapon with no further issue. The school is following its student disciplinary procedures for the student involved. There was no threat towards any student or staff during this incident. Everyone is reminded that weapons or look-alike weapons are not to be brought on to school property. We continue to be alert to any issue that may affect student and staff safety and remind everyone that if you see something, say something and report it.
In addition, Denning School was cleared briefly this morning after a food item burned in a microwave oven, causing smoke in the kitchen area. Students and staff did a good job of following their training.
Football Schedule Update. Monday October 23rd 2023 we will play a JV game in Sparta at 6pm.
Two additional announcements: 1) Be aware that the phone lines for the District are temporarily down. They should be back up and working just after 8 this morning. All other students will be learning and be fed today.
For FCHS students who were scheduled to be on the STEM Day trip to John A. Logan College today, Friday, October 20, 2023, that trip will STILL happen today. Buses will leave the high school at your originally scheduled time for that field trip.
